Established in 1965, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is an autonomous body within the United Nations system. It aims to enhance the effectiveness of the United Nations and its Member States in the areas of peace and security, as well as in promoting economic and social development. The core objective of UNITAR’s Division for Multilateral Diplomacy is to strengthen multilateralism and support United Nations intergovernmental mechanisms through the implementation of workshops and training programs.

Nanyang Technological University (NTU)

Nanyang Technological University (NTU), ranked 12th globally and 3rd in Asia in the QS World University Rankings (2026), is a world-renowned research university in Singapore. As a comprehensive institution with a strong focus on engineering and business, NTU is globally recognized for its research in numerous fields including nanomaterials, biomaterials, functional ceramics, and polymer materials.

Project Modules

Module 1: International Organization Internship

Designed and taught by senior UN diplomats, international affairs experts, and scholars, this module establishes a solid foundation in multilateral affairs knowledge. Participants will engage in planning UN international events, conducting research and analysis on global governance issues, and participating in Model United Nations conferences. Through simulated processes including issue discussions, resolution drafting, and multilateral negotiations, participants will gain deep insights into the operational models and decision-making logic of international organizations.

Module 2: Visits to the United Nations Office in Singapore

The program will arrange for participants to visit the United Nations Office in Singapore to gain insight into the overall direction and working approach of the United Nations in advancing multilateral cooperation and the sustainable development agenda in the Asia-Pacific region. Through visits and exchanges, participants will learn about key United Nations initiatives in areas such as climate action, public health, urban governance, education, and youth development, while experiencing practical pathways for multilateral collaboration and coordinated governance.

Module 3: United Nations Leadership Training

This module focuses on cultivating core leadership competencies, including foundational global leadership skills, negotiation techniques, and public speaking enhancement. Participants engage in simulated United Nations conferences centered around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), enhancing team coordination and goal-advancement capabilities through collaborative tasks and role-playing exercises.

Module 4: Visits to Enterprises, Universities, and Laboratories

The program will connect participants with renowned Singaporean universities, research institutions, and innovation platforms. Learners will have the opportunity to explore campuses and research environments, gaining insights into cutting-edge academic pursuits and regional development issues while experiencing the diverse integration of education and research. Through visits to innovation hubs and enterprises, participants will closely observe applications and practices in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, green development, and urban governance, deepening their understanding of innovation-driven development and industrial upgrading. Additionally, participants will explore Singapore’s cultural and artistic spaces, experiencing innovative expressions and social vitality within the context of East-West cultural convergence, thereby enhancing their overall awareness of the international academic, industrial, and cultural ecosystem.

Module 5: Cross-Cultural Experience

Beyond academic pursuits, students will engage in field studies and cultural exchanges. They will visit campuses such as Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore, immersing themselves in vibrant academic environments and international exchange settings. They will tour cultural and artistic landmarks including the National Gallery Singapore and the Asian Civilisations Museum, appreciating regional art and cultural heritage. Strolling through Gardens by the Bay and the Marina Bay Sands area, they will witness the harmonious coexistence of modern urban landscapes and ecological nature. They will also explore distinctive neighborhoods like Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Glam, immersing themselves in the diverse ethnic cultures and historical legacies of Singapore.

Project Outcomes

Students who successfully complete the program will receive:

  • A Program Completion Certificate jointly issued by the United Nations International Youth Organization and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)
  • A completion certificate from the organizing department at Nanyang Technological University
  • A course certificate from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
  • A project internship certificate from the United Nations International Youth Organization
  • Outstanding participants will receive a letter of recommendation signed by the President of the United Nations International Youth Organization

Baptiste Michaud is a leader within the United Nations International Youth Organization, focusing on fostering innovation, intercultural dialogue, and sustainable development for the next generation. He possesses extensive experience in nonprofit management and youth development, having successfully spearheaded initiatives that inspire and mobilize youth globally. His expertise lies in creating impactful programs and forging strategic partnerships that amplify youth voices while addressing global challenges.

In France, he studied at the Paris Institute of International Affairs, majoring in International Development and Cooperation. In Switzerland, he engaged in integrated affairs at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva and collaborated closely with international humanitarian organizations. In China, he participated in multiple sustainable development and social welfare projects at the United Nations Office in China. His distinguished background and cross-cultural experience position him as a key talent in the United Nations’ social sector, capable of making significant contributions.

Jean-Jacques de Dardel

Sustainable Finance Communications Specialist | SDG Strategic Communications Advocate | Youth Leadership Empowerment Mentor

Jean-Jacques de Dardel is a cross-disciplinary communications specialist who seamlessly integrates digital communications, sustainable finance, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He is fluent in Portuguese, English, French, and Spanish. During his tenure as Communications Lead at the United Nations Office at Geneva, he focused on advancing impact funds aligned with UN SDG themes, establishing transparent and efficient global public communication and stakeholder engagement systems. His designed communication frameworks enhanced project visibility within multilateral development finance systems. Edgar remains dedicated to UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), empowering the next generation of international talent through multilingual training, cross-cultural workshops, and youth leadership camps.

Kira Intrator

International Development Specialist | Head of Innovation at MIT | Recipient of International Innovation Awards

Kira currently serves as Director of Urban Planning and Innovation at the MIT Aga Khan Institute for Human Settlements. A recipient of the MIT Alumni Award for Public Leadership, she brings over fifteen years of cross-disciplinary international experience spanning sustainable urban design, strategic management consulting, and technology-driven humanitarian innovation. She has provided professional services to UN agencies, national governments, international foundations, and multilateral organizations across Central Asia, South Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

As an international development expert seamlessly integrating technology with humanitarian missions, she has frequently participated as a keynote speaker at major multilateral conferences including the United Nations Habitat Conference and the World Urban Economy Forum. Her innovative achievements include co-developing an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system for post-disaster communication with Google Civic Response, building an AI-based real-time urban population data collection model, and piloting a satellite- and open-source data-driven “Human Settlements Assessment Tool” in Central Asia. This system was honored with an international innovation award from the United Nations.

Constantin-Alexandre Papadopoulos

International Conflict Mediator, International Negotiation Consultant, United Nations Diplomatic Professional

He graduated from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland with dual master’s degrees in Law and Economics, renowned in the industry for his exceptional negotiation skills and leadership under high-pressure environments. He designed the Negotiation Mastery program and certification at Harvard Business School, having collaborated with over 75 renowned global enterprises and international giants. He also developed negotiation skills training courses for the Swiss Armed Forces General Staff Headquarters, serving as the project lead. Across multiple United Nations forums, he consistently advocates a global development philosophy centered on cooperation for peace, communication to resolve conflicts, and education to empower youth. His profound expertise in youth empowerment, international understanding, strategic mediation, and cross-cultural communication makes him an indispensable asset in United Nations multilateral missions.

Steve Vouilloz

Senior Humanitarian Coordinator, United Nations | Conflict and Disaster Response Specialist | Multilateral Leader in High-Risk Environments

Steve currently serves as Chief Humanitarian Advisor at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), overseeing humanitarian operations in conflict zones and disaster areas. He leads emergency coordination, establishes humanitarian response mechanisms, and drives policy alignment and strategic planning. With over two decades of cross-agency experience, he has held senior management and coordination roles at the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and multiple international non-governmental organizations.

Gloria Supatra Bhargava

Gloria currently serves as the full-time Secretary of the United World Youth Model United Nations, bringing extensive experience in youth leadership and international diplomacy. She is a respected expert in sustainable development, creative thinking, and global leadership, with a deep background in United Nations simulation conferences. She has actively organized and participated in numerous Model UN sessions, fostering cross-cultural dialogue and solutions to global challenges while nurturing many young leaders. Her expertise in sustainable development spans environmental policy, social equity, and economic resilience.
